Student Union

The GC Student Union is a vibrant and creative student organization dedicated to enriching campus life and building a high-quality platform for student growth and development. Career Development Department

The Career Development Department focuses on students' career growth and skill development. It operates through three functional teams — Publicity Team, Events Team, and Career Planning Team — covering event planning, organization, and promotion across areas like career planning, experience sharing, job-seeking guidance, and skill development.

• Publicity Team systematically delivers career development information and event updates by running the official WeChat public account JIcareer, publishing the Set Off from JI handbook, and producing themed posts
• Events Team serves as the external liaison hub, responsible for connecting with companies, alumni, and other student organizations to plan and execute company visits, alumni interviews, and other hands-on exchange activities

Internal Liaison Department

The Internal Liaison Department serves as the communication hub within the Student Union, responsible for channeling information between the college administration and the student body, fostering internal unity within the Student Union, and organizing student activities and academic initiatives.

Upward, the department conveys students' concerns and requests to the relevant college offices, advocating for student rights and interests. Downward, it relays the college's decisions and responses back to every student.

Additionally, the department strives to bridge gaps between communities by organizing a variety of cross-year and cross-cultural exchange activities, creating opportunities to connect with students from different years and countries as well as professors. As the department with the largest-scale events and the broadest reach, it is committed to creating fun, diverse, and international student activities.

Technical Department

The Technical Department is a hands-on technical platform where students can put their skills to the test, dedicated to helping everyone level up in engineering and information technology. Never touched tech before? No worries! Here, you can learn the theory and build hard skills through real projects. The department is built around flexible division of labor, with functional modules including Workshops, Technical Maintenance, and Project Development — members can choose their path based on interest.

• In Workshops, we regularly host a variety of hands-on sessions on topics like Linux Install Party, Git, Bash, Typst, reflow soldering, and mechanical keyboards, supporting students in their learning journey. It's not just a place to learn — it's also a space to connect and explore the joy of technology with like-minded peers.

• The Technical Maintenance Team is responsible for keeping existing projects running and up to date, ensuring tools and services continue to serve students effectively. Along the way, you'll build solid practical experience and sharpen your problem-solving skills.

• With the Project Development Team, you'll have the chance to dive into new, creative builds. Past projects include the VSCode JOJ Plugin, the Ball Dance Mini-Program, and more. Current projects in development include a Course Selection Community, a PDF Translation Tool, with future plans for an Event Calendar and a Canvas Desktop App. This is the ultimate stage for turning ideas into reality and transforming skills into tangible impact.

• Publicity Team is primarily responsible for the Technical Department's posts on the GC Blue Tiger WeChat public account. Team members plan content, design layouts, and write copy, sharing the department's technical achievements and workshop highlights with a wider audience. It's a great way to hone your communication and design skills while gaining experience in teamwork and outreach.

Sports and Club Department

The Sports and Club Department is responsible for organizing and promoting sports activities, with three functional teams — Logistics Team, Publicity Team, and Planning Team — dedicated to offering students a wide range of sports events and experiences.

Volunteer Team

The Miyuan Volunteer Team upholds the motto "Seek Fellowship, Serve with Heart," bringing warmth and energy to rural education, labor education, and volunteer service. The team is led by a captain group and a minister group, with four divisions — Project Incubation, Operations, Human Resources, and Publicity — each with clear responsibilities and close collaboration. Members work in small groups to organize daily activities, building deep friendships and默契 while embodying the spirit of volunteerism and demonstrating the responsibility of today's youth. Rural Education Programs

The Miyuan Volunteer Team runs three flagship rural education programs: the Miyuan Zhumeng Yunnan Teaching Group, the Anhui Yingshang Yingyan Teaching Group, and the Jiaoyang Yingchun Yangjia Teaching Group, along with the Huzhou Teaching Group, Jiande Teaching Group, and others. These programs have been running for nearly 20 years, sending over 2,000 student volunteers to rural schools, bringing dedication and care to the classroom and enriching children's成長 experiences.

Community Service

The Miyuan Volunteer Team actively partners with community service organizations, focusing on special-needs groups to spread warmth and create meaningful impact. The "Warm Sunshine" community volunteer program at Sunshine Homes has served 200 person-times with a total of 30 hours of service; the "Egg Walk" charity fundraiser raised over 10,000 RMB from current students alone; the "Go Far" Anhui teaching exchange program ran for a month, serving over 100 participants; and the "Miyuan x Child's Big Love Pen Pal Program" pairs university students with children for monthly letter exchanges. The team also works closely with corporate social responsibility partners such as Siemens' Love Green Education Program and the Alibaba Foundation, turning公益 commitments into concrete action.

Labor Education

The Miyuan Volunteer Team combines the educational value of labor with hands-on fun, covering traditional arts and basic life skills. Through labor education activities, students can experience traditional crafts like lacquer fan painting, bamboo weaving, and flower arranging, make实用 items such as soap and red bean hand warmers, or learn baking, sewing, and other life skills. The colorful Perler bead sessions after midterms are especially great for soothing stressed minds.

On-Campus Volunteer Activities

The Miyuan Volunteer Team coordinates and supports the organization, training, and placement of volunteers for major college and university-level events, including the National College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, the Sino-Foreign Cooperative Education 10th Anniversary Conference, international student orientation programs, the volunteer student advisor program, and the international faculty partner program.

Science and Technology Innovation Association

The Student Science and Technology Innovation Association (abbreviated as S&T Association) is a student organization dedicated to providing a high-quality platform for technological innovation. It consists of three departments: Project Department, Competition Department, and Publicity Department. Whether you're already a seasoned innovator or a newcomer eager to explore the world of tech, as long as you have a passion for creation, the GC S&T Association is your best choice.

Project Department

The Project Department's main goal is to cultivate students' innovation and organizational skills. It is primarily responsible for organizing the Freshman Mechanical Design Competition and the Meet Your Research Mentor events. The Freshman Mechanical Design Competition is a campus-wide event where students build a remote-controlled vehicle capable of carrying objects and performing tasks from scratch, guided by the organizing team. This major event is entirely run by the S&T Association, with the Project Department taking the lead — from early corporate communications to mid-event venue setup and refereeing, to post-event evaluations and reimbursements. Meet Your Research Mentor, meanwhile, offers students a valuable opportunity to step outside the classroom, enter the lab, and connect directly with faculty researchers.

Competition Department

The Competition Department is primarily responsible for leading and organizing technical workshops and promoting and coordinating science and technology competitions. During each year's competition registration periods, the department runs targeted preparation workshops. Beyond that, it regularly hosts in-depth lectures on topics such as technological innovation, mathematical modeling, mechanical design competitions, and major introductions. The Competition Department also gathers information on various science and technology competitions, promotes relevant opportunities to students, and organizes participation.

Publicity Department

The Publicity Department's main role is managing the GCInnovation+ WeChat public account, including competition announcements, lecture promotions, and post-event recaps. As the bridge connecting students with the S&T Association, the department handles科普宣传 and information dissemination. The public account regularly posts updates on competitions available to GC students, details about S&T Association events, and lecture introductions, helping GC students stay informed and get involved.

Advising Center

The Advising Center (abbreviated as AC) is a dedicated platform providing comprehensive academic support for students. Over the past few years, AC has organized a series of content-rich, practical workshops featuring excellent senior students from various majors who share their experiences on key academic topics such as academic planning, course selection guidance, program applications, and research internships. In addition to regular workshops, AC's team of student assistants offers both online and in-person advising services, ready to answer any academic questions students may have.

To make learning resources easily accessible, AC has set up a Piazza Q&A platform and has archived all workshop materials in its official GitHub repository: github.com/GC-Advising-Center and Workshop archive site: ac.gcers.org. Students can also access past materials through the "Resources" section on the AC WeChat public account.

Psychology Association

The Psychology Association (GC Student Psychology Association) is SJTU's first student-led organization focused on mental health. It was initially formed around GC's class psychology representatives, later welcoming many more students interested in psychology and related fields. Over the past year, the association has organized interdisciplinary academic lectures on psychology and related topics, run small-group in-depth counseling workshops, and hosted casual recreational events such as board game nights at LBL, piano concerts, and the Electric Meadow Music Festival co-hosted at the electronic field. These activities have helped students better understand psychology in fun settings and find moments of peace away from their intense academic schedules.

The association's organizational structure is led by a presidium, with four departments: Organization Department, Liaison Department, Publicity Department, and Internal Affairs Department. The Organization Department handles activity design, the Liaison Department connects with on- and off-campus resources, the Publicity Department manages post and poster design, and the Internal Affairs Department secures venues and supplies.

The Psychology Association is a warm and lively family where everyone contributes their part, and it aims to continue creating a more comprehensive haven for the minds of students and faculty alike.

Media Center

The Media Center is dedicated to documenting and promoting college events. It comprises four departments: Photography and Video Production, Content Operations, Creative Design, and Editorial and Planning. Its responsibilities include running the JI Blue Tiger WeChat public account, producing and publishing college event notices, organizing workshops, designing and producing college-branded merchandise, taking event photos, and creating promotional videos.

• Content Operations handles the layout and production of student activity posts
• Photography and Video Production runs photography workshops and special projects, and captures photos and videos showcasing student life
• Editorial and Planning writes press releases, creates column features, and produces posts with a dash of fun and creativity

JI Story Interview Group

The JI Story Interview Group is a warm-hearted campus media outlet and a cultural oasis steeped in sentiment. Affiliated with the college's Youth League Committee, it was founded on the 10th anniversary of GC and has since been dedicated to getting to know everyone connected to GC, capturing the unique spirit of the GC community, and chronicling the college's journey. Its work spans personal interviews, historical documentation, and cultural storytelling. The group's carefully curated WeChat public account, "JI Stories Decade," has published over 60 in-depth personal interviews and built a loyal readership of over 3,000. "JI Stories" refers to everyone who shares a connection with GC — alumni, students, faculty, and leadership alike. Through vivid storytelling, the group ensures that GC's unique cultural character is passed down through generations.

The interview process begins with the team precisely planning the topic, selecting the interviewee, reaching out, and crafting the interview outline. The core interview is then conducted in depth, with key information carefully captured and refined through multiple rounds of drafting and polish to produce high-quality articles. Finally, the stories are published across WeChat public accounts and video channels, with simultaneous distribution to college and university official channels for wider reach.

The JI Story Interview Group's current work is vibrant and diverse. Last summer, responding to the university Youth League Committee's call, it launched the "JI Whispers" social practice project, using interviews to preserve valuable footnotes to GC's 20-year history. It innovatively introduced the "Voice of JI" podcast program, using audio to bring GC's interesting characters and cultural stories to life. It continues to deepen its flagship "Conversations with JI People" series, featuring in-depth dialogues with alumni, professors, and university leadership — not only presenting a richer, more multifaceted image of faculty but also addressing common questions on students' minds. Looking ahead, the group is actively exploring more innovative, in-depth, and meaningful interview directions, such as focusing on international students' academic journeys, future plans, and integration into the college, steadily expanding its horizons toward a more global stage.
